Verizon FiOS

Verizon has been advertising their fiber optic internet service for $29.99/mo, so we decided to jump on it, since it’s the same price as DSL, but worlds faster. Today, the Verizon guy hooked up fiber optic cable to my house, then ran CAT5 through it, and the results are amazing:

The speed is a little slower than the officially rated 10Mbps down/2Mbps up, but I’m not complaining at all. The coolest part is having an ethernet port in your wall. For those people who have no idea what I just said, yeah, I’m a little geeky, so read on…

Here’s an ad that very cleverly designed:

Commonest

So today, while I was reading through journal articles, I discovered a new word - COMMONEST!

“Osteoarthritis, the commonest form of arthritis…”

I couldn’t believe it was a real word, so I looked it up, and there it was:

1 entry found for commonest.
comĀ·mon
Belonging equally to or shared equally by two or more; joint: common interests.

Just then, my co-worker looked over my shoulder and saw me looking at the dictionary entry for common.. and he was like.. you idiot, you don’t know what common means? Haha…

So then, I tried looking up the word “bestest,” but alas, it does not exist. Why does commonest get a dictionary entry while bestest does not? I don’t know. Life is harsh. And why was this the highlight of my day? I don’t know. Life is harsh.

The Last 2+ weeks

It’s been a long time since I updated, so I’ll just write some of my thoughts since then:

During the heat wave, I saw a lot of weird things: A woman wiped sweat from her face with a large coffee filter, the M96 bus driver stopped the bus to flirt with a woman - for THIRTY SECONDS! WHAT?! And the receptionist at my dentist’s office thought I was 16… great.

Next totally unrelated thought:
Subway story
I was riding the subway and my hand was holding onto the rail above. A guy stood next to me and accidently touched my hand when he reached for the rail. Moments later, I “accidently” put my hand over his and smiled at him. He smiled back. Then it was awkward.

It’s not a true story, but do you ever think about doing that, just to see their reaction?

LASTLY, pictures from the Bahamas!

Study: Tech Replaces Diamonds As Girl’s Best Friend

Shopping for gifts just got a little easier… I will buy a 60″ LCDTV for every anniversary. YESSSSSSSSS.

Diamonds are no longer a girl’s best friend, according to a new U.S. study that found three of four women would prefer a new plasma TV to a diamond necklace…

The Girls Gone Wired survey of 1,400 women and 700 men aged 15 to 49, which was conducted by market researcher TRU, found that given the choice, women would opt for tech items rather than luxury items like jewelry or vacations.

The study found 77 percent of women surveyed would prefer a new plasma television to a diamond solitaire necklace and 56 percent would opt for a new plasma TV over a weekend vacation in Florida.

Even shoes lost out. The study found 86 percent would prefer a new digital video camera to a pair of designer shoes.
